    Fishing Licences

Ontario Residents: : For Ontario residents, a complete and valid licence to fish consists of:

    • an Outdoors Card plus a valid fishing licence tag, OR
    • a Temporary Outdoors Card and fishing licence tag for Ontario Residents

The licence tag is either embossed on the card or carried as a separate document, depending on the method of purchase.

Non-Canadian residents: Anyone who lives outside of Canada is considered a non-resident for the purposes of fishing licence regulations. Most non-residents need a fishing licence to fish in Ontario. Specifically:

    • Non-Canadian residents 18 years of age and over must purchase a fishing licence.
    • Non-Canadian residents under 18 years of age may fish without a licence if accompanied by a person who has a valid Ontario-issued recreational fishing licence (or deemed licence). Any fish caught are part of the catch and possession limit of the person who holds the licence. As another option, non-Canadian residents under 18 years may purchase a licence and any fish caught apply to the catch and possession limits of that licence.
    • Non-Canadian residents 65 years of age or older are not exempt from licensing requirements.

For non-Canadian residents a complete and valid licence to fish in Ontario consists of:

    • a non-Canadian resident Outdoors Card (plastic) or a Non-Canadian Resident Temporary Outdoors Card
    • a valid non-Canadian resident fishing licence tag carried as a separate document

Fishing license options:  The first option is the time period, the second is the type, regular or conservation.  You can learn about these at,  Fishing Licence Options for Non-Canadian Residents.

Purchase On-line:  A non-Canadian resident can purchase an Outdoors Card and fishing licence online and print an E-licence for instant use.  This option is highly recommended.

Purchase In Person:  You can purchase fishing licences at ServiceOntario Centres, the Ontario Travel Centre in Sault St. Marie, or at the Shell Station in Massey on the East end of town, about four blocks East of the traffic light.  There are numerous other possibilities but these are the most convenient.

Fishing Regulations:  It is also wise to get a copy of the fishing regulations when you purchase your licence.   La Cloche Lake is in Zone 10; and the specific regulations for that zone and the exception for La Cloche Lake are presented in that section of the regulations.  You can find these regulations online at:  Ontario Fishing Regulations  Note: Your possession limit is the same as your daily catch limit.  If your limit is in the freezer you are limited out.  Also note that you may not keep any walleye from La Cloche Lake because they are being stocked in the lake.  La Cloche Lake now has an open season for lake trout as published in the regulations.
